Rosario's story

Many women in Kenya experience challenges when it comes to feeding their children. Rosario is different. She is a humble mom whose main dream is to improve her home's conditions. She believes that she can triumph even though she lives in a third-world country where opportunities are scarce. Rosario is a very hardworking woman who hails from Kerugoya, which is an area known worldwide for producing athletes who have broken world records in major marathons: the athletic “creme de la crème."

Rosario earns most of her income by raising crops and animal farming. She also earns some income through a personal business. She is content with her agricultural lifestyle, but is a very enterprising woman. Although she never had formal employment, she has always worked hard on her farm and has always provided her children and family with decent meals.

The Kerugoya area has favorable conditions for horticulture farming, so Rosario is seeking a loan to buy seedlings to start this type of business. She will use the profits she earns to educate her beautiful children who were left in her hands when her husband disappeared. It is challenging for women to access funds in Africa, but Rosario is relieved to know there are institutions such as Kiva that help enterprising women like her.
