A loan helped to buy more spices since her inventory is low.

Dorcas Group's story

Cecilia, a 32-year-old mother of three children, is a member of the Friendship Bridge Trust Bank “Dorcas”. She, along with eight other women, lives in a rural area in the state/department of Suchitepequez. Cecilia has a sixth grade education. She sells spices like basil, cumin, cloves, garlic and laurel. With her income, Cecilia has been able to contribute to the family including the education of her children. She is requesting a Kiva loan to buy more spices since her inventory is low.

The women in the Trust Bank meet monthly to make loan payments. They have convenience stores and sell spices, delicious prepared foods, and icy treats. A few women sell clothing, shoes and catalogue products. The women learn to manage their loans and bolster their businesses in their educational training when they learn how to budget, plan and invest. They also learn about other essential topics like health, hygiene and nutrition. Friendship Bridge calls the effective combination of loans, education and healthcare services “Microcredit Plus”.

Cecilia and her friends send their gratitude to Kiva investors for funding their loans. They are poised to step into a brighter future benefiting themselves, their families and their community! Thank you, Kiva investors!
