Maya's loan finished fundraising, but these other borrowers need your support

A loan helped fund the purchase of a step van that will soon become the Chicago Mobile Makerspace - a mobile classroom and tool shop that will help us make design education accessible to everybody.

Maya's story

I grew up a short drive from Downtown Chicago in Oak Park, Illinois, the home of the famous architect, Frank Lloyd Wright, and many of his works. I was exposed to architecture at a very young age because I was surrounded by it. A sleep-away architecture camp cemented becoming an architect in my mind. I earned a Bachelor degree in architecture in 2014 and began working at an affordable housing firm right away. About one year in, I began grad school primarily online so that I could continue working full-time. My passion for architecture and issues in the built environment began to blossom. While working full-time and finishing my Master of Architecture, I founded Chicago Mobile Makers in 2017. After a lot of hard work and long hours, we are providing consistent programming in the Chicago Area. It’s my dream to finish the long process of becoming a licensed architect and to see Chicago Mobile Makers grow and empower more and more young people around Chicago.
