Mahanaim Group's story

Beatriz O. C. is 42 years old (she's wearing a brown sweatshirt in the photo). She lives in the community of San Miguel Xico, in the second section of the Chalco Solidaridad valley in the Ude Mahanaim State of Mexico.

Beatriz has been working making piñatas for six years. As her husband's salary from brick laing only covered their food costs, Beatriz was anxious to learn a trade in order to help him out with their kids' school fees; so a friend of hers offered to teach her how to make piñatas. From there she thought it was a good idea, and so improvised some tools to help her make the piñatas. As her orders grew larger she decided to get together with other people who had the same needs as her to form a group that would ask for credit through the Realidad Foundations. Her business has prospered & throughout the year she works very hard so that when the high season arrives she has enough stock to offer in local markets. She has achieved all this with the help of her family. She wants her business to grow & to get her own mode of transport which would help to increase her earnings & allow her to be a source of employment for someone else.
