Claire's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to buy a freezer for cooling her beverages.

Claire's story

Claire is 18 years old and lives in the town of Kisekende in the Kisekende region of Uganda. For the past 1 year, Claire has been working hard to manage her beverages business, which sells milk, soda and juice.

To help expand her business, Claire has requested a loan of 500,000 Ugandan Shillings from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to buy a freezer for cooling her beverages, and will help Claire to generate greater profits.

Using the profits of the business, Claire will be able to buy for herself necessities like clothes, pay house bills and provide basic needs for her family like food, thereby improving on their standards of living.

Claire hopes that in the future she will be able to fully equip her business with machines for preserving milk.

Claire is a member of BRAC's Empowerment and Livelihood for Adolescents (ELA) program. In addition to microfinance loans, the program provides both a safe place for young Ugandan women to take part in group activities, and a forum for life-skills training.
