Elina's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to buy certified seeds and nutrient-rich fertilizers, to expand her horticultural farm and reduce production costs, thereby improving her family's income and living standards.

Elina's story

Elina, an enthusiastic mom, has gained many benefits from farming. She has made a profit, earned independence and job security over the last few years. She is a committed and devoted goat and crop farmer who depends entirely on her farming business. Elina has used part of her savings from agriculture to send her lovely children to school.

Elina is seeking a loan of 40,000 KES to buy certified seeds and nutrient-rich fertilizers to expand her crop farm. By scaling up her business, she will reduce production costs and increase output. Her strategy is to use the returns from the investment to pay for more farm inputs. Lack of farm inputs is a major problem that leads to the closing of many farms due to poor quantity and quality of yields.

Unlike most microfinances in Kenya that have imposed very complicated procedures on funds acquisition, thereby discouraging smallholder farmers, Juhudi Kilimo is working closely with Kiva to make loan acquisition for a smallholder farmer easy and convenient. Through this intervention, movement of funds in the rural communities has increased, thereby alleviating rural poverty. Elina should, therefore, be able to increase her profits, which will elevate her family's standard of living.

Kindly lend to her in 2018 and brighten her spirit!
