A loan helped to get more chicks, feed and medicine for her poultry business.

Sarah Group's story

Gertrude is in her sixties and has been in the poultry business for 20 years. She is a widowed homeowner who has 5 grown up children who are now working.

The good birds that she rears are liked by many people, hence she never lacks customers. Her children help her sell the birds as they advertise for her at their workplaces. The income from her business helped her educate her children and improve their living standards.

Gertrude buys 1-day-old chicks and sells the birds at $12 each, supplying to banks and different canteens. Currently, she has 200 birds at 4 weeks, 100 birds at 2 weeks and 100 birds booked already plus, 15 bags of chicken feed. Her fowl run has a capacity of 600 birds.

Gertrude keeps her business records and receipts. Her group member, Mandisina, is a tailor and sells kitchenware as well. They received their sixth combined group loan, from which Gertrude used her share to get more chicks, feed and medicine for her poultry business.
