Meliame's story

Meet Meliame. She's 53 years old, married, the mother of four children and grandmother of nine grandchildren. They are living together in their own home at the Eastern side of Tongatapu. Her business is tapa making, which she's doing together with a group of women in her village.

Meliame is a very successful woman in her business. This is her 12th loan. She has been running her business ever since she first started at SPBD and now she now she is able to request a huge amount for her loan because she has the potential to run her business and successfully repay her loan like her previous loans.

Meliame used to sell the tapa that she made and also the soft mulberry that appears in the photograph to earn income for her per week or monthly. Sometimes she faces the challenges of the lack of mulberry for her to make the tapa and she cannot meet the demands of her customers.

In the future, she has a vision to earn some more income from her business to educate her children for a better future.
