Las Rosas De Guadalupe Group's story

The “Microcredit Plus” program (loans, education, healthcare) of Friendship Bridge is beneficial for the seven Maya Sacapulteco women who formed the Trust Bank “Las Rosas de Guadalupe” located in the state/department of Quiche.

These women have little or no formal education and their monthly educational trainings are essential for helping them reach their goals. The ladies learn about an aspect of 4 topics: business, health, family, women. The program helps the women run their businesses that include the sale of small regional sweets and animal husbandry (poultry, livestock). A few ladies make straw baskets. They are requesting their 2nd Kiva and are excited about the possibilities!

Petrona, a 31-year-old mother of two (ages 11,13) is a member of the group with a 6th grade education. She has an animal husbandry business and raises pigs, sheep and cattle. Petrona fattens her livestock, then butchers them and sells the meat by the pound. Sometimes, she sells them alive. With her income, Petrona can continue to send her two children to school because she realizes the tremendous importance of a good education. She is requesting a Kiva loan to buy a calf.

Petrona and her friends are so proud to have an income to help their husbands take care of their households. Thank you, Kiva investors, for the essential role that you play in providing loan support!
