Mary's loan finished fundraising, but these other borrowers need your support

A loan helped a returning Kiva borrower with good credit buy farm inputs such as fertilizer and seeds to enable her to grow more crops.

Mary's story

Mary is a returning Kiva borrower with a good repayment history. She is a progressive woman who lives with her family in a remote area of Thika. For the past few years, she has been entirely dependent on proceeds from her farm to take care of her family. She is a focused woman who always thinks of success. For the past few years, Mary has been growing different crops and keeping dairy cows.

Through these activities, she has been able to earn a decent and honest income. Because of the passion she has for farming, she has even nicknamed her cows that she really enjoys taking care of.

Mary has a farm where she grows crops and raises livestock. She earns additional income from a personal business. She only managed primary education and is content with the farming lifestyle. Mary requested a loan from Juhudi Kilimo for 100,000 KES, which she will use to buy farm inputs such as fertilizer and seeds to enable her to grow more crops, reap maximum profits, and increase her business.

Being a woman and accessing funds in Kenya, especially around Thika, is very challenging, but Mary feels relieved knowing there are institutions such as Kiva that help enterprising women like her. She is always working to improve her family’s living conditions, but her biggest dreams are to become independent and support her family by herself and secure her children’s future.
