A loan helped to buy a biodigester to transform her farm into a sustainable business.

Maria Concepción's story

Maria Concepción has five children and lives in the rural region of Metepec. Her dream is to have a cost-effective, sustainable dairy farm that she can pass on to her children and perhaps even to her future grandchildren.

Maria Concepción is currently spending too much money on propane to heat the milk produced by her cows for pasteurization. With a Sistema Biobolsa biodigester, she will reduce her reliance on expensive and non-renewable LP gas and agrochemical fertilizers by processing the manure from her 1,000 dairy cows to produce biogas and biofertilizer, which helps both her wallet and the environment. This loan will help Maria Concepción install a 40 cubic meter biodigester that will pay for itself after an average of two years. The resulting reduction in operating costs will allow her to better deal with fluctuating and unpredictable milk prices. This will make it easier for Maria Concepción and her children to continue the generations-old tradition of dairy farming in the Metepec region of Hidalgo.

This loan represents 65% of the price of the biodigester. Maria Concepción will pay the remaining amount directly.
