Jesus Group's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to buy high quality fabrics in various colors to make colorful traditional blouses known as huipiles.

Jesus Group's story

Elena is the Secretary of the Friendship Bridge Trust Bank “Jesus,” located in the department/state of Solola. The ladies in the group are Maya Tz'utujil and live on the shores of the beautiful Lake Atitlan. The lake is surrounded by three majestic volcanoes called Toliman, Santiago, and San Pedro.

The women are requesting their second Kiva loan and will invest the funds into their tortilla shops, traditional textile businesses, and sales of seasonal fruits. They look forward to their monthly meetings when they make loan payments and participate in educational training. In their educational sessions, the women learn about themselves (women’s roles/rights, women’s bodies) health, hygiene, and nutrition. They also gain relevant business tools and learn about prioritizing expenses. The effective combination of loans, education, and healthcare services is called “Microcredit Plus.”

Elena is a 20-year-old single women who does not have children. She studies diligently because her goal is to be a registered nurse. She studies on weekends and interns in a hospital in another department. Elena is a seamstress and makes beautiful traditional blouses called “huipiles.” She needs capital for the business and is requesting a Kiva loan to buy various high quality fabrics in various colors.

Elena is pleased to be supporting herself, including her educational studies. She will be a real asset to her community when she finishes and begins to be of service in her area.

Thank you, Kiva investors!
