Mairo's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to store maize until prices rebound after the harvest season in order to make more money and enhance her standard of living.

Mairo's story

As a maize farmer living in rural northern Nigeria, Mairo is very happy to see her livelihood improving. During the planting season earlier this year, Mairo benefitted from quality inputs and training on best practices from Babban Gona which will help to increase her yield by up to double the national average.

To maximize profit, Mairo needs to store her maize and sell it after harvest, when maize prices are higher. With this Harvest Advance loan, Mairo will receive the cash equivalent to the value of her maize at harvest while Babban Gona stores the maize in special hermetic containers to sell at a higher price in future, after the market glut.

Mairo plans on using her Harvest Advance loan to save for her family's future, thereby smoothing the seasonal agricultural cycle so that she can meet unexpected expenditures and enjoy a more secure livelihood. Access to affordable credit is helping Mairo to transform her farm business from a low-margin occupation into a more lucrative enterprise that helps her to save part of her increased earnings and invest in her family’s future.
