María Del Carmen's story

María is a determined woman who is married. Her husband is a farmer. They have three children, two of whom are in school.

María takes care of the household duties. She also cultivates vegetables, coffee, corn, and beans. In the good seasons of work on the coffee farms, María leaves her house at 3:00 A.M. and walks for an hour until she reaches the meeting place where trucks arrive to transport other men and women who are hired to prune, fertilize, and harvest the coffee crop. The work ends at 2:00 P.M. In addition, she helps her partner when he has to plant his crops while her sister looks after the children.

The loan she is requesting will be used to buy farming supplies for cultivating vegetables. María dreams of building a house out of more resistant materials. She currently lives in a house made of metal laminate sheets, so her family feels insecure.
