Las Margaritas De Sumpango Group's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to buy women’s blouses as well as mayonnaise, ketchup and spicy items.

Las Margaritas De Sumpango Group's story

The department/state of Sacatepéquez is characterized as mountainous with a mild climate. The economy is based on agriculture, livestock, traditional textiles and handicrafts.

In this productive area, seven ladies have formed the Friendship Bridge Trust Bank, “Las Margaritas de Sumpango". They are requesting their first Kiva loan and will invest the funds into their farming (tomatoes, chiles) and tortilla businesses. A few women sell clothing or French fries from food carts.

Paz, meaning “Peace” is the President of the group and has a 9th grade education. She has three children (11-25) and is funding the primary education of her youngest child. She was able to send the older children through high school.

For quite some time, Paz has had a clothing business and a food cart where she cooks chicken and potatoes. She is requesting a Kiva loan to buy women’s blouses as well as mayonnaise, ketchup and spicy items.

Paz and the ladies in the group learn to manage their loans in their monthly educational training, part of the “Microcredit Plus” program of loans, education and healthcare services. Topics are relevant to their lives. They acquire basic business tools (budgeting, planning, investing, savings), learn to care for their families (nutrition, hygiene, health) and empower themselves. Since they usually have little or no formal education, these classes are vital to their success.

Thank you, Kiva investors!
