A loan helped to buy more clothes.

Joan's Group's story

Joan's Group is comprised of two hardworking women. Joan is 22 years old and lives in the town of Wobulenzi in the Luwero region of Uganda. For the past two years, Joan has been working hard to manage her clothing business, which sells clothes like dresses and skirts.

To help expand her business, Joan has requested a share of 1,000,000 Ugandan Shillings from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to buy more clothes and will help Joan to generate greater profits. Joan will use the profits of the business to buy for herself necessities like clothes, pay house bills like electricity, and to provide basic needs for her family like food thereby improving their standards of living. Joan hopes that in the future she will be able to open a boutique where she will sell both clothes and shoes in order to generate more income.

Joan is a member of BRAC's Empowerment and Livelihood for Adolescents (ELA) program. In addition to microfinance loans, the program provides both a safe place for young Ugandan women to take part in group activities and a forum for life-skills training.
