Patzojon Grande Group's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to buy chickens and turkeys to raise and afford education for her children.

Patzojon Grande Group's story

Yolanda is the Secretary of the Friendship Bridge Trust Bank “Patzojon Grande” located in the department/state of Quiche. She is one of 8 Maya K’iche women in the group. Yolanda is 32 years old and has 6 children (2-14). The eldest child finished the 5th grade. Yolanda raises chickens, turkeys and pigs. With her earnings, she supports the household. She is currently requesting a KIVA loan to buy chickens and turkeys of various ages. She will earmark some of her income for the continuing education of her children.

The 8 women have little or no formal education. Their monthly educational trainings, part of the “Microcredit Plus” program of loans, education and healthcare services) are designed by a Facilitator who uses pictures, diagrams, games and role playing to share information about an aspect of 4 topics: business, family, health, women. They can apply what they learn immediately to their businesses that include animal husbandry, convenience stores and the preparation of delicious regional dishes. They apply the information to their family (nutrition, health, hygiene, use of medicinal plants) and often share it with friends and neighbors. In the process, they gain self esteem and become more empowered.

Thank you, KIVA investors, for the vital role you play in the lives of Yolanda and her friends. This is their very 1st KIVA loan cycle! They are taking steps toward empowering themselves and eliminating poverty.
