Agatha's story

Agatha is 21 years old and lives in the town of Kabwohe in the Kabwohe region of Uganda. She is married and has one child. For the past two years, Agatha has been working hard to manage her beauty salon, which offers services like the plaiting of braids, weaves and the treatment of hair.

To help expand her business, Agatha has requested a loan of 500,000 UGX from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to purchase braids, hair oil and shampoo, and will help Agatha to generate greater profits. Agatha will use the profits from the business to pay school fees for her child, buy for them items for school requirements, buy for herself necessities like clothes and provide basic needs for her family like food. Thereby improving on their standards of living. Agatha hopes that in the future she will be able to finish up the house she is building.

Agatha is a member of BRAC's Empowerment and Livelihood for Adolescents (ELA) program. In addition to microfinance loans, the program provides a safe place for young Ugandan women to take part in group activities.
