Cathy's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!
A loan helped to build a handicraft business to support her remote community in Ialibu Province, Papua New Guinea.
Cathy is based in Port Moresby, the capital of Papua New Guinea, where she has established a handicraft trading business. Cathy is currently buying and selling handwoven baskets from her home community in Ialibu province, a remote area in the Southern Highlands. Her vision is to provide economic opportunity and social development for the community and the master weavers based there. Through her work with these artisans, Cathy helps to protect the heritage of traditional skills while developing new products to enable market access. Cathy is working with Kiva's Field Partner, REAL Impact, an Australian organisation that facilitates sustainable connections between the extraordinary artisan skills of informal economies and the global creative industries of fashion and interiors. Cathy has been accepted into REAL Impact's accelerator program and with this opportunity, she will get the necessary support to build her handicraft business and develop new products using the traditional skills of her weavers. To achieve success with her business, Cathy needs this loan to invest in product design and increase production to meet growing demand from the international buyers in REAL Impact's network.
