Los Guerreros Group's story

Ernestina, Juan, and Fernando are members of the group “Los Guerreros”. They are originally from Jeráhuarao, Michoacán, Mexico.

Ernestina is the group leader and has been given the task of allocating land for planting pine trees for the purpose of producing resin. She remembers when there were trees many years ago, but unfortunately they suffered from the problem of unauthorized logging being done by people from the outside who did not request permission. For this reason, her goal is to rehabilitate the space through reforestation as a way of supporting the environment. Sadly, no action is being taken by the local residents since nature cannot return by itself.

Ernestina is 66 years old and possesses a great amount of joy and enthusiasm when it come to replanting the pine forest. She is confident that the replanting will improve the livelihood of her family since this will secure a source of income for many years. Ernestina is aware that reforestation requires many processes and that seeing results takes a great amount of time.

To achieve this goal, Ernestina and her fellow group members are requesting resources to buy the necessary supplies and to pay laborers to do the work. Unfortunately, they do not have the needed resources to make progress or to complete all of the work. This is why they have asked for the support of the Kiva lenders. This loan means they have the opportunity to see their dreams and wishes fulfilled.
