Guadalupe Sacatepequez Group's story

Rosa is the President of the Friendship Bridge Trust Bank “Guadalupe Sacatepequez”. Although she has no formal education, she and her husband work hard so that their 5 children (10-20) can have a complete education. Currently, the youngest 2 are in the 4th and 6th grades. Rosa sells delicious fresh tortillas and chicken. During holiday times, she makes regional dishes like “chuchitos”, made of corn “masa”, and filled with meat and tomato sauce. They are then wrapped in corn husks. This is a very popular item on the Day of the Dead on the 1st of November. She wants to have plenty of ingredients on hand for all the holidays that fall towards the end of the year and so is requesting her 1st KIVA loan to buy corn, meat and firewood, all at the wholesale price.

There are 8 ladies in the group, located in the department/state of Sacatepequez. They sell flowers, vegetables, traditional textiles, American clothing, tortillas, chicken and regional snack foods. Their monthly meetings give them an opportunity to make loan payments and participate in educational trainings, part of the “Microcredit Plus” program of loans, education and healthcare services. Topics covered range from effective business practices to health, hygiene, nutrition and women’s rights.

Rosa and her friends are very grateful to be able to participate in the program and to KIVA investors for funding their much needed loans. Thank you to each of you for your kindness and your generosity!
