Total loan: $4,750

Las Campanitas Group

Chiche, El Quiche, Guatemala , Quiché Department, Guatemala / Agriculture

Las Campanitas Group's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to buy mesh, wire and other supplies for an enclosure, as well as chickens and feed.

Las Campanitas Group's story

Candelaria, a 26-year-old married woman with three children ranging in age from four to eight, has five years of formal education. She is a member of the Friendship Bridge Trust Bank “Las Campanitas,” located in the department/state of Quiche.

Candelaria's husband is a farmer, but his income is not enough to sustain the family. Candelaria has two businesses: traditional textile fabrication and farming. She would like to add a third business, poultry-raising, and is requesting her second Kiva loan to buy mesh, wire and other supplies for an enclosure, as well as chickens and feed.

Candelaria looks forward to her monthly Trust Bank meetings with nine other Maya K’iche ladies, most of whom have elementary school educations. They support the needs of their families with their income. Some have husbands, while others are the sole providers. They have traditional textile businesses or raise animals.

During their monthly meetings, they make loan payments and participate in educational sessions, part of the “Microcredit Plus” program of loans, education and healthcare services. They learn about self esteem, women’s rights, health, hygiene and nutrition. The women learn to manage their loans with information about planning, budgeting, investing and savings.

It would be impossible for them to walk into a bank to secure a loan. Kiva investors provide a valuable service in making loans to them. Thank you to each of you for the difference you make!
