Gloria's story

Gloria is a member of the Ipeti Embera community which is located in rural east Panama. She is an artist, crafting classic Embera jewelry called chakiras. Chakiras come in different styles and can be necklaces, earrings, or bracelets. They are known for their vibrant colors and beautiful designs.

Gloria was taught by her grandmother on how to make all types of Embera art craft as a way of passing down their culture. Gloria is not only an artist. She is also a mother, grandmother, wife and a proud member of Ipeti’s community bank.

Over the years she started a small business by selling her art, becoming a popular artist in her community. Through her business has been putting her five children through school and is currently raising her grandkids.

She is a highly motivated woman who wants to be able to grow her business. With her loans she wants to purchase more materials in order to grow her business and may be build a small art studio where she can display her work and also sell her art.
