A loan helped to purchase a biodigester to improve her farm with sustainable technology.

Charity's story

Charity is a poultry farmer who lives in Gatundu North, Kenya. She keeps eight thousand birds on her farm, and supports a total of five family members, including children. Her dream is therefore to increase her income from her farm and ensure she has savings for her children. With the forty-cubic-meters Sistema.bio digester, she will transform her poultry waste into renewable energy (biogas) and biofertilizer (biol), thus saving money and improving the productivity of her farm.

Charity will replace the expensive LP gas, wood and charcoal with clean and renewable energy (biogas) and eliminate agrochemical fertilizers, thereby saving money and displacing propane-based fuels. The yields of her corn, forage and vegetables field will also improve over time as she starts applying the organic fertilizer, which nourishes the soil.

This loan represents 72% of the full price of the biodigester; the remaining part is paid directly by Charity.
