Masaprr Village, , Sierra Leone / Agriculture

Mabinty's Female Farmers Group's loan finished fundraising, but these other borrowers need your support

A loan helped to pay for improved seed, organic inputs, and tractor rental which will allow these farmers to escape subsistence by farming a larger area with a higher yield.

Mabinty's Female Farmers Group's story

Mabinty (1st from right), the featured borrower of Mabinty's Female Farmers Group, is 40 years old with six children and has been a rice farmer her whole life. Sierra Leone's recent Ebola crisis devastated Mabinty's farming community, and she is now trying to recover her farm back to the 5 acres she had farmed before.

Mabinty refuses to give up, despite losing a lifetime of work, and she organised a large group of other women who had similarly prospered before the crisis, then lost everything but now will not give up. All members are currently trapped in a cycle of subsistence and take extremely high-interest loans for poor quality inputs during planting time.

A no-interest Kiva loan will enable this group of determined women to get back on their feet and back in business.
