Oliver's story

Oliver is 17-years-old and lives in the town of Nakifuma in the Kasangati region of Uganda. For the past 2 years, Oliver has been working hard to manage her Food stall, which sells green bananas, cassava, sweet potatoes.

To help expand her business, Oliver has requested a loan of 7,00,000 Ugandan Shillings from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to buy green bananas, cassava, sweet potatoes and will help Oliver to generate greater profits, which in turn will help expand Oliver's business, increasing profits and enabling her to afford basic needs and support her family, thereby improving on their standards of living. Oliver hopes that in the future she will be able to open up a wholesale shop.

Oliver is a member of BRAC's Empowerment and Livelihood for Adolescents (ELA) program. In addition to microfinance loans, the program provides both a safe place for young Ugandan women to take part in group activities and a forum for life-skills training.
