Jibu, L3C's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!
A loan helped to expand clean drinking water access for over 5000 consumers in Democratic Republic of Congo.
Jibu, L3C's story
Problem A lack of meaningful business opportunities and massive under-employment in emerging markets stops aspiring entrepreneurs from realizing their potential and addressing persistent problems in their communities. At the same time, over a billion people do not have access to daily necessities such as affordable drinking water. Solution Jibu simultaneously addresses the challenge of safe, affordable water access and lack of meaningful employment opportunity by tackling the root issue of many failed drinking water projects: lack of local ownership. Jibu creates franchise opportunities for a network of African social entrepreneurs to open Jibu-branded storefronts that serve urban and peri-urban communities with safe, affordable water, creating quality jobs for women and youth in the process. Challenging the notion that bottled water is a luxury product, Jibu offers consumers high quality drinking water packaged in an aspirational and convenient tap bottle at a price that is competitive with common home water treatment methods like boiling. Loan Use & Impact With this loan, Jibu will be able to launch new drinking water franchises in Goma, Democratic Republic of Congo that will expand clean drinking access for up to 5,000 consumers in each franchise zone who are otherwise unable to afford it. Each franchise will be equipped with a water filtration unit, solar power system, full storefront buildout and community outreach and activation materials. Photos by: Sandro di Carlo Darsa (Tigre)
