Jane's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to stock more clothes to sell.

Jane's story

Jane is 22 years old and lives in the town of Kalerwe in the Kawempe region of Uganda. She is married and has two children, one of whom is currently in school.

For the past year, Jane has been working hard to manage her clothing sales business; she sells children's clothes.

To help expand her business, Jane has requested a loan of 900,000 Ugandan Shillings from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to stock more clothes for sell, and will help Jane to generate greater profits. With greater profits, her business will expand, and Jane will be able to provide the basic necessities at home and pay school fees for her children, thereby improving their standards of living. Jane hopes that, in the future, she will be able to buy a plot of land and build a permanent house.

Jane is a member of BRAC's Empowerment and Livelihood for Adolescents (ELA) program. In addition to microfinance loans, the program provides both a safe place for young Ugandan women to take part in group activities, and a forum for lifeskills training.
