A loan helped to buy leather and suede at the wholesale level.

Dulce Genesis Group's story

“Dulce Genesis” is the name of the Friendship Bridge Trust Bank located in the department/state of Totonicapan. The 10 Maya K’iche ladies in the group are mainly farmers growing beans, apples and plums. A few others have traditional textile businesses or leather businesses making shoes. They are requesting their second Kiva loan and are certain that this essential capital will help them a great deal.

Juana, a 19 year old single woman with a 2nd grade education, lives with her parents and siblings in a humble house surrounded by vegetation. She is #7 out of 10 children. In order to contribute to the household expenses, Juana has a leather shop where she makes shoes, especially for women. She has a large order for a group of students and needs to resupply her shop. Therefore, Juana is requesting a Kiva loan to buy leather and suede at the wholesale level.

The ladies who participate in the “Microcredit Plus” program of loans, education and healthcare services, have an average of 2.6 years of formal education. It is so important that they have essential knowledge about how to successfully manage their businesses, care for their families and themselves. Their monthly educational sessions cover relevant topics like planning, investing and savings, as well as health, hygiene, nutrition and the use of medicinal plants. They learn by participating in games, role playing and seeing pictures and diagrams.

Thank you, Kiva investors!
