Estrellas De San Pedro Group's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to buy corn, ingredients for her recipes, firewood and gas.

Estrellas De San Pedro Group's story

Lucia, a 27-year-old married mother of two children (1 and 11) is the secretary of the Friendship Bridge Trust Bank “Estrellas de San Pedro” or “Stars of San Pedro” in the department/state of Solola. She has a third grade education, and understands that in order to be successful, her children need a complete education.

Toward this goal, she is earmarking some of her income from her tortilla and delicious regional snack (tamales, chuchitos, atol) business. Lucia sells from her home, as well as the market in her town.

She is requesting her first Kiva loan to buy corn, ingredients for her recipes, firewood and gas.

The Trust Bank was formed by seven Maya Tz'utujil women who proudly wear their colorful Maya clothing. They are dedicated to caring for their simple homes, sending their children to school, taking care of household expenses and empowering themselves.

The “Microcredit Plus” program (loans, education, healthcare services) of Friendship Bridge helps them to be successful and raises their self esteem. One of the topics covered during their monthly meetings is how to manage their businesses, that include selling catalogue products, making tortillas, snacks and bread. Another member has a “mototaxi” or “tuk tuk” business.

Thank you, Kiva investors, for helping these ladies help themselves!
