but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to purchase a biodigester to power her farm with biogas and stop cutting trees.

Romana Patricia's story

Romana Patricia lives in San Jose Chiapa. Like many farmers in her region, she used to buy firewood to power her farm, but this has become a problem; now trees are scarce, making even more difficult for farmers to have affordable access to energy.

Romana Patricia plans to use a Sistema Biobolsa biodigester to eliminate wood, fossil fuels and chemical fertilizers from her farm. With her biodigester, she will transform her cow, pig and sheep manure into renewable energy and organic fertilizer. She and her family will also be able to cook without smoke and stop spending time chopping wood. She will increase her corn productivity with the organic fertilizer that the biodigester will produce and give back to the soil the nutrients needed to reforest San Jose Chiapa.

This loan represents 63% of the full price of the biodigester; the remaining part was covered by a cash downpayment and a government subsidy.
