Tyson's story

Jonathan Steiger grew up on a large conventional dairy farm in South Western Wisconsin. His many years on a working farm have given him countless skills necessary to run and maintain a dairy. Not only does Jonathan understand the styles of management from his education in stage management, he also has many years in customer service as a manager at movie theaters, fine-dining restaurants and other food service establishments. His motivating work ethic and practical skill set are used daily on the farm. Furthermore, Jonathan participated in Rogue Farm Corps on Siskiyou Crest Goat Dairy which gave him exposure to daily life on a small-scale dairy producing cheese for local markets. After the season of cheese-making Jonathan moved back to Wisconsin to further his education by participating in the University of Wisconsin’s Cheese Technology Course. Jonathan has been the principle cheese maker for the past 4 years at By George Farm and continues to create new dairy delicacies. Tyson Fehrman earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in Natural Resources. His education and upbringing in central Wisconsin's rivers and forests have given him a large skill set and deep understanding of natural processes and resource use. Tyson's years working for financial institutions have instilled in him an incredible eye for detail, critical thinking and problem solving skills, as well proving he is a very self-motivated individual. Tyson has worked with numerous farms in the Applegate Valley and has learned various techniques of organic farming. His experience on these farms has also led to his own style of successful marketing. Through a keen eye and a sophisticated pallet he has supplied award winning chef's and restaurants listed among the top one hundred of the nation with quality, hand-raised products.
