Jaime's loan finished fundraising, but these other borrowers need your support

A loan helped A Kiva loan will help me open a free standing birth center run by midwives in my community. This valuable option for maternity care is missing from our area.

Jaime's story

When I was pregnant with my first child in 2006, I knew only one thing: I wanted to have a natural birth. I expected that the people whom I had hired would support me in that decision, but was ultimately laughed at in labor, and narrowly escaped a c section by pure luck. The postpartum period was very hard and I endured a deep depression. When I found out I was pregnant with my second child in 2009, I knew I had to do things differently. I sought out a midwifery practice and learned about informed consent and quality care. It was a truly transformative and healing experience and I knew that I needed to be a part of the movement to help other women feel that kind power and support. Over the years I have learned that birth isn't always easy. It doesn't always go as planned. But, that's not the most important thing. The most important thing is that you have a voice in your care, you are respected and heard, and that your providers value you. I am humbled to be able to provide other women with that experience.
