Nanas Y Amas's loan finished fundraising, but these other borrowers need your support
A loan helped to help 4,500 vulnerable women in Peru get dignified, formal jobs and learn how to use their employment as a tool to build prosperity.
Nanas Y Amas's story
The Problem: There are 1 million domestic workers in Peru. Most of them suffer from discrimination and work informally, meaning they put in more than 12 hours per day, have no signed contract, and receive a salary 50% below the Minimum Wage. Because of their unfair working conditions, they live in survival mode: hopeless about their future and trapped in a circle of poverty. The Solution: Nanas & Amas (“Nannies & Housekeepers”) is a social business that promotes domestic work with dignity as a tool to build prosperity, connecting domestic workers with families committed to respecting their rights and offering them formal jobs with signed contracts, decent working conditions, and salaries 72% above Peruvian Minimum Wage. To date, the company has supported over 2,500 women in Lima, who previously suffered discrimination and used to live in poverty, to attain employment and life-skills coaching. Use of Loan: This loan will enable Nanas & Amas to scale their impact in other Peruvian provinces by building a software system that handles their main procedures, allowing them to reach more women. With the successful funding of this loan, Nanas & Amas will be able to open eight new offices by 2022, creating more than 4,500 formal jobs that help women gain economic independence and build better life opportunities for themselves and their families.
