Altitud's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!
A loan helped transforms the lives of 125 female Mexican entrepreneurs, helping them start their own sewing businesses while still being able to care for their children at home.
“Altitud gives me confidence. I am so grateful because without knowing me, Altitud paid attention to me and gave me credit to buy a sewing machine to start my business.” - Zenaida Bautista Aguilar The Problem: There are 8.2 million women in Mexico that are solely responsible for the financial well-being of their families, 46% of which live in poverty. Exacerbating the problem, single mothers often cannot work outside of their homes due to lack of childcare. When they do go to work, young children are left to fend for themselves and are often influenced by gang violence and crime. The Solution: Altitud was founded to create better employment opportunities for female heads of household, allowing them to work flexible hours at home with increased income. Altitud supports Mexican women through the creation of home-based sewing workshops, access to micro-loans to buy sewing machines, technical training programs to grow their businesses, and direct connections to textile buyers. To date, Altitud has supported 735 women entrepreneurs to start their own businesses, with an average income increase of 40%. Learn more about Altitud’s impact here and here. Use of Loan: This loan enables Altitud to scale operations to directly support an additional 125 female entrepreneurs through loans for sewing machines, which will in turn generate employment for a total of 437 women. This loan transforms the lives of vulnerable women by providing dignified work, skills development, and better quality of life for them and their families.
