Fresa Group's story

Yesika is the president of the Fresa (Strawberry) group, formed by seven women living in a rural village in the state of Quetzaltenango. She is 27 years old and is a single mother to her 7-year-old son.

Yesika has a small farm where she raises pigs, which she sells once they are old enough. With the Kiva loan, Yesika will invest in her farm by buying four new medium-size pigs.

The women that form the Fresa group live in a rural village in the state of Quetzaltenango. They she are hoping to obtain line of credit. Some of the women sell medicine, while others run small stores such as convenience stores and paper goods stores.

With the Kiva loan, they will be able to purchase their products in wholesale quantities and prices.

The Fresa group has participated in the program Microcredit Plus, which is run by the Kiva field partner Friendship Bridge. This program provides non-formal education about investment best practices, managing expenses and the importance of savings. This program aims to provide support to these women in addition to their loans.
