A loan helped to buy high-quality hybrid seeds and fertilizer to improve her farm yields so that she can use the profits from her increased harvest to ensure that her children graduate.

Joyce's story

Hello, Kiva community!

Joyce is a hardworking farmer from a remote village in the Kakamega area of Kenya. Thanks to her daily efforts, she has managed to give her family good care. Joyce has a farm where she grows crops and raises livestock.

Joyce generates her income from selling produce from her farm, which includes milk, maize, and vegetables. She also earns some income from a personal business. For the past nine years, this has been her way of earning a livelihood for her family.

Since childhood, Joyce has always had a passion for farming. She has even nicknamed one of her cows. Joyce is a very proud farmer, especially when she is milking her cows. Her cows produce between 10 and 17 liters of milk a day, which helps her support her family. Joyce also practices crop farming, but has not been making good profits.

Joyce is seeking a loan to buy high-quality hybrid seeds and fertilizer to improve her horticulture farm yields. She intends to use the profits from increased harvest to ensure that her children graduate from school. This intervention will help Joyce to meet the increasing demand for food in the market. In the process, she will generate more income to repay the loan debt and improve her family's quality of life.
