A loan helped to purchase farming inputs such as fertilizer and hybrid seeds to boost the quality of her produce, earn more profits, and elevate her living standards.

Veronicah's story

Veronicah is a determined woman who has only one thought in her mind: to prosper. She is a farmer from the Machakos area in the Eastern Region of Kenya. She is responsible for all the operations on her farm, which she does perfectly. On her farm, she rears dairy cows and poultry, grows crops, and carries out daily household chores such as cooking, collecting water, and caring for children.

The quality of her crops has dwindled due to the use of poor farm inputs. This has brought about low demand for her crops and has negatively impacted her sales. Access to modern-quality farm inputs (fertilizer and hybrid seeds) is the pillar of agricultural revolution. However, in the developing country of Kenya, fertilizer and seed allocation by the government is way below the needs of farmers.

Veronicah is seeking a helping hand to purchase farming inputs such as fertilizer and hybrid seeds to boost the quality of her produce. Since Juhudi Kilimo, in partnership with Kiva, ventured into the affairs of smallholder farmers in Kenya, farmers can attest that there has been a significant improvement in input availability. Veronicah is assured of a bumper harvest, which will open new markets for her crops, and subsequently increase her profits. This will elevate her standard of living, as well as that of her beautiful children.
