Mujeres De Emmanuel Group's story

Maria is a 29-year-old married mother of three children, ages 6, 8, and 13, and a member of the Friendship Bridge Trust Bank Mujeres de Emmanuel Group. She lives in a rural area in the department/state of Totonicapan in an adobe home with a sheet metal roof. Two of her children are in school and the income from her business supports their expenses. Along with her husband, Maria sews men’s jackets. She shares that thanks to her income, living conditions have improved. She is now requesting a Kiva loan to buy lining fabrics, imitation leather, rivets, zippers and cones of thread.

She looks forward to increasing inventory, sales and income.

This is the third Kiva loan for Maria and her eight Maya K’iche friends in the group. They are seamstresses, raise animals, sell personal care products, make gifts as well as, prepare tacos and french fries. They benefit from their monthly educational training, part of the Microcredit Plus program of loans, education and healthcare services. Topics are very relevant to their lives and include an aspect of four subjects: business, health, family, women. Maria shares, “The lesson about natural plant medicines was very helpful and I am putting much of what I learned into practice.”

The success of Maria and the ladies in the group would not be possible without the effective partnership between Kiva and Friendship Bridge. Thank you, Kiva investors, for your generosity in funding these most needed loans!
