A loan helped to buy fertilizers and supplies for cultivating coffee.

G.s Lagunita De Cones Group's story

Juana is a 44-year-old woman and a single mother of five children. She and her children live in the town of Gracias, Lempira. Juana works in agriculture and has been cultivating coffee since she was a young woman. The coffee that she harvests is sold by the quintal [1 quintal = 100 kg] to brokers in the area. She sells pulped, wet-processed, and dried coffee beans. Every year, Juana uses the income she earns from her harvest to pay for food, household expenses, and her children’s education. She wants to expand the production on her coffee farm, but she does not have the necessary funds to buy supplies. Juana is requesting a loan from ODEF as part of a group so that she can buy fertilizers and supplies. Her goal is to continue cultivating coffee so that she can transform the way of life for herself and her family.

Juana is a member of the solidarity group “Lagunita de Cones”, which is requesting a loan of 40,000 HNL that will be invested in fertilizers, supplies, and labor for weeding of the coffee crops. The group consists of six members who engage in the same type of work, which is in agriculture. The photo shows the members from left to right: Marta, Olga, Norma, Nelson, José, and Juana.
