Ninfa Group's story

The department/state of Sololá has many rural areas that require a microbus for transportation. These areas are accessed via the Pan American Highway. The Friendship Bridge Trust Bank "Ninfa" with 8 Maya K'iche' members is located here. These women have small businesses raising chickens, selling traditional clothing, embroidering, or selling plastic containers. They also have convenience stores or make artisan soaps. In order to provide more product inventory for their clients, they need to invest capital into their businesses and are requesting their first loan cycle with Kiva.

Brígida is a member who realized 6 years ago the necessity of having a business that would provide more income for her family. She sells traditional clothing. She is 42 years old, single, and has 4 children (9-23). Brígida shares that thanks to her business, she has been able to construct her house, as well as provide a complete education for 3 of her children. Each morning, Brígida, who is friendly and dynamic, goes out into her community to sell her traditional clothing. Because of her wonderful personality and work ethic, her sales are growing and she needs to increase her inventory. Therefore, she is requesting a KIVA loan to buy a large variety of blouses (huipiles), skirts (cortes), and aprons (delantales).

The business success of Brígida and her friends is thanks to the partnership between Kiva and Friendship Bridge. The ladies are very grateful!
