Mujeres En Accion 1, 2, & 4 Group's story
Adelsy and the other borrowers of Mujeres en Accion live north of San Pedro in a small town called Batey Euscarduna. Bateyes are poor rural communities built by sugar companies to house their field workers. Over time, conditions in these communities have deteriorated heavily, and houses are in poor shape. Bateyes typically lack potable water and any kind of reliable electricity, and have far from sufficient medical services. Despite these difficulties, Adelsy runs a successful small business a fried food stand in Euscarduna. She will be using this loan, her eighth with Esperanza, to purchase foods such as flour, oil, different kinds of meat, and coffee to sell to her neighbors and community.
Adelsy lives with her father, husband, and four children (ages 2 to 11) in a house maD. of cement block. Although it doesn’t sound like much, it is a significant improvement over the typical wooden homes of the Dominican Republic. She hopes that with profits from her business she can eventually purchase her own home. Adelsy also looks forward to continuing to grow her business which allows her to support her children and raise them with good health and educations. Thank you for lending to Adelsy and the Mujeres en Accion group!
