Montecristi is well known all over Ecuador and the world for its standout artisanal handcrafted items made of straw, wicker, piquigua [the fiber of the eponymous tropical rainforest plant], and wood, including fine toquilla straw hats that are recognized throughout the world as "Panama hats."

The credit group consists of 11 members. The president of the group is Bertha. She is 54 years old, is is a common-law relationship, and, has four children. Three of them are older and independent, and one is 16 years of age and studies at school. Her partner is a master ceramic tile installer. They live in their own house.

Bertha has been running a small grocery store at home for more than two years, where she sells a variety of products for mass consumption, such as rice, breads, milks, chickens, fish, tuna, noodles, flours, etc. She works every day from 06: 00 to 20: 00.

With this new loan, she will buy flour, sweets, processed juices, breads, eggs, meats, etc. Her dream is that her business continues to grow and be very healthy.
