Mercedes Lupita's story

The city of Portoviejo was affected by the earthquake on 16th April 2016. The city is rich in fruit and vegetable production for domestic consumption. Mercedes is 47 years old and is in a common-law marriage. She has three children, one of whom is now an adult and independent while the younger ones, aged 6 and 17, are at primary school and high school. Her husband is an electrical mechanic.

Mercedes has a business selling food. She prepares lunches in her home where her customers come from Monday to Friday and she also does home deliveries. She also makes special food for social events, sandwiches, desserts etc., and this is generally at the weekends. A daughter helps her with the food preparation and deliveries.

With this new loan she will buy tables, chairs and kitchen utensils and carry out maintenance on the cooker. Her dream is to have a venue for social events which she can hire out and sell the food.
