A loan helped fund the purchase of new equipment, a promotional marketing campaign and provides working capital for my business.
Born in Virginia, my mother fled to Washington, away from my abusive biological father. We then settled in California. Though we escaped the abuse, my emotional stability was impacted. I ran away from home and constantly fought. At age 17, in the aftermath of a fight, I was shot five times in the stomach. In critical condition, I was forced to pivot towards a new wholeness, so I cried out and gave my life to Christ. God’s grace then allowed me to finish high school and college. I knew others shared my experiences and needed that additional chance to activate the purpose in their lives. Wishing to help, I chose a career in social work. I earned my Bachelors, then my Masters in Social Work Administration, Policy and Planning in 1999. This began my more than 17 years of experience in this field serving communities. Our dreams for the future include the growth of NEI, LLC as a community enterprise company with the ability to provide franchising opportunities for others to have a chance at ownership in the beauty industry. Our other arms of the organization include government contracting, and offering training and education services in areas of social work and business as well as within my husband’s purposed areas of safety and security. Today, I have contributed to social work by managing social programs, working for LA County Department of Children and Family Services in Adoptions, and serving as Chief Operations Officer for a government contracting agency, while also managing Residential Programs in Los Angeles for parolees from California State Prisons. Since 2011, I have served as Policy Professor at USC’s Suzanne-Dwork School of social work. This all demonstrates my entrepreneurial spirit and how my experiences nurtured my drive, integrity and gifts of administration to prepare me in ownership.
