Corinna's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped build out the shell for my brick and mortar salon and education studio.

Corinna's story

My very early years were spent living between El Paso and Merced, CA. When my dad left the picture it was primarily Merced. From an early age I gravitated to art, but never really took any single subject matter too seriously. It was in my 20s where I saw a woman with a really cool, chic haircut. I got the name of her hairdresser and booked an appointment-- 4 months out! When I arrived for my cut, the hairdresser seemed surprised to see me since she did not take any new clients. Through the cut I asked about how I might be able to dip my toes in the trade. It was determined that one does not simply dip one's toes into the trade. The next week I enrolled in beauty school night classes while taking college courses and working full-time. Two years later, I was a licensed hairdresser. Two years after that, I was the in-house educator, responsible for going to learn outside of work and relaying what I learned to the staff. Five years later, I was somehow accepted into a razor cutting apprenticeship at the world-renowned House of Bumble. So this little girl from Merced who had no aspirations for so long was moving to the Big Apple. It was here where I added to my training skillset and was trained to teach stylists how to look at hair differently, to see people as individuals, to work with different hair types differently, the art of consultation, and how to bring out the best in individual stylists. I was taught how to use tools — the razor, scissors, thinning shears, clippers, and more — to achieve the desired result. There was a detailed emphasis placed on proper razor cutting technique here. I was immersed in hair! I kept learning from several educators, taught at the House of Bumble, took clients at the House of Bumble, worked backstage at Fashion Week, and more. Bumble and Bumble saw something in me and eventually relocated me to San Francisco to fly around to salons all across the northwest and western Canada to teach their staff on behalf of Bb. I was simultaneously the lead educator at Edo Salon for six years, teaching razor cutting, styling, and client photography for social media before moving to Barrow Salon, also in SF. I established Pony Salon Education in 2014 to offer unique training opportunities to hairdressers of all levels. The brick and mortar salon in Rockridge is a dream being made over many years.
