Stecia's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to buy more salt, sugar, and soap for her retail business.

Stecia's story

Stecia is 20 years old and lives in the town of Kisekende in the Kisekende region of Uganda. She has two children who are all currently in school. For the past three years, Stecia has been working hard to manage her retail business, which sells soap, sugar, salt, and cooking oil.

To help expand her business, Stecia has requested a loan of 2,000,000 Ugandan Shillings from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to buy more salt, sugar, and soap and will help Stecia to generate greater profits. Stecia will realize more profits from the expanded business, and will be in position to improve on her standards of living by providing basic needs at home and paying school fees for her children.

Stecia hopes that in the future she will be able to buy a plot of land and build a permanent house.

Stecia is a member of BRAC's Empowerment and Livelihood for Adolescents (ELA) program. In addition to microfinance loans, the program provides both a safe place for young Ugandan women to take part in group activities, and a forum for life-skills training.
