Mujeres De Balanya Group's loan finished fundraising, but these other borrowers need your support

A loan helped to buy seeds and fertilizer at the wholesale level in order to guarantee a good harvest.

Mujeres De Balanya Group's story

There are eight Maya Kaqchikel women in the Friendship Bridge Trust Bank “Mujeres de Balanya” located in the department/state of Chimaltenango, known for the five sacred areas often visited by travelers. The ladies in the group are requesting their second Kiva loan and will invest the funds into their businesses that include textile and clothing sales, small farms and animal husbandry (poultry). Their goals are to help their husbands and family members take care of household expenses and to educate their children.

They meet monthly to make loan payments and also to participate in educational trainings on relevant topics like business practices, health, family and women.

The President of the group is Leslin, a single 21-year-old mother of an 18-month-old son. She lives in a rural area with her parents in a simple two-room house constructed of block and metal sheeting. Leslin is a role model for her Trust Bank since she is motivated and has great leadership skills. She has a small farm growing squash, peas and potatoes. With her earnings, she helps her parents with their home.

She is requesting a loan to buy seeds and fertilizer at the wholesale level in order to guarantee a good harvest. Leslin shares, “the advice that I have received about budgeting and investing at our monthly meetings has helped me increase my income and I am very happy about this.”

Thank you, Kiva lenders, for your generosity in funding these much appreciated loans.
