A loan helped to build a fowl run.

Fortunate's story

Fortunate is a 26-year-old entrepreneur who lives with her two children and in-laws in the Nkayi district in Zimbabwe. She raises indigenous chickens and turkeys for resale. Fortunate is now requesting a Kiva loan in order to construct a standard fowl run to promote a healthy environment for her chickens to lay and hatch eggs. She plans to use the profit she earns to pay the school fees of her children and meet the families basic needs. Fortunate will repay the ‘social interest’ on her loan by volunteering 2.5 hours weekly as a Camfed Transition Guide, supporting other young women who are just entering Camfed’s alumnae organization, CAMA. She will deliver an orientation course with weekly sessions on topics including health and financial literacy, as well as providing career guidance.
