A loan helped establish Ladie Kakes as an LLC, file and acquire Trademarks for the Ladie Kakes name and logo, increase advertising, and provide working capital toward purchasing inventory and equipment for The Sweets Show this fall.
My journey began in a small apartment in Covina, CA. We did not have much growing up, as my parents divorced when I was young, and my mom worked diligently to ensure we were taken care of and knew we were loved. Even with her struggles, I did not realize the many obstacles she endured until I was in college. I went on to be the first in my family to graduate college. However, I graduated into the worst job market since The Great Depression. So, moving on from my job in the breast care industry proved to be a challenge. I needed to do something that I loved and fed my creativity. I've always had a passion for food and loved baking especially. I began baking twenty years ago with my first set of scratch cupcakes, which were a disastrous mess in my mother's oven (I mixed up the tsp and Tbsp measurements of baking soda and baking powder). I'd had fun experimenting on my family and friends for years and my clientele was growing, so I decided to take my Mom's advice, finally, and "move scared!!!" I took a chance on myself and started Ladie Kakes three years ago with the support and encouragement of my team. I have always been shy and fearful of being the center of attention. Now, I've become comfortable with my discomfort. Three years later I am in Farmer's Markets four days a week, tradeshows and catering on the weekends. My business is steadily growing and I am working toward opening a storefront and supplying restaurants and cafes with my delicious desserts.
